In May of 2017 the Codington County Heritage Museum opened an exhibit titled “Made in Watertown” which features items from factories in Watertown from 1878 to today.

The Watercolors of Ethel Pritchard Campbell
May 2016 – April 2017
Over 100 years ago a young woman named Ethel spent her afternoons sitting on the shore of Lake Kampeska, recreating, in beautiful watercolors, what she saw.
This year, with thanks to Susan Freeburg-Klein and Sybil Freeburg, the collection of Lake Kampeska watercolors created by their aunt Ethel will be on display at the Codington County Heritage Museum.
Gardens – Then & Now

Learn about the evolution/types of gardens, tools used, a comparative on fertilizers, as well as interviews from people who lived the “Dirty Thirties”.

In 2014 Ken Sheldon donated his collection of promotional items given out from businesses in Watertown. This collection includes everything from the ever-popular ruler tothings you may not have seen before, like a pair of ice tongs stamped with the name of the ice company.

The museum has a wonderful collection of typewriters and adding machines that we have cleaned up and researched for this exhibit. There are even a few typewriters you can try out if it has been a while since you typed!
On the Record
July through December 2015
Step back in time to hear some of your favorite old music via a tour of Chuck Olson’s record collection. We will start with Edison disks and work our way to 8-tracks and cassettes. Bring your children or grandchildren and show them how a record player works!
125 Years of Statehood
How much do you know about the Homestead Act of 1862?
This year we are celebrating the 125th Anniversary of South Dakota becoming a state with some exhibits featuring big parts of our history as South Dakotans.Stop in and see the exhibit on Homesteading.
“In Stitches” focused on the interesting and detailed needlework in the museum’s collection.
Lakes of Codington County
“Lakes of Codington County” featured pictures, memorabilia and more from all the lakes in the county. Lake Kampeska had a larger presence than other lakes.
